In a few days, I leave for a week in Minnesota. Mrs. Communist’s oldest younger cousin is getting married, and her dad is springing for accommodations.

It would be ungracious to turn down such an offer, so we accepted. It’s the drive up there that I’m not looking forward to. On car trips, I start getting antsy about two hours in. This is a TEN-HOUR drive. And with a wife and two young kids, it’ll get stretched into at least 12 hours.

Those sprung-for accommodations I mentioned? The place where we are staying, on one of Minnesota’s 10,000 lakes, appears to be as big as my bedroom:

That’s supposed to sleep two adults and two kids.

It may sound as if I’m complaining, which of course I am. No worries, though: To get her through, Mrs. C is chanting “Mall of America,” which is just a couple of hours away. My salvation will come in the form of the Central Lakes Trail, which is mere steps from our cabin door.

It’ll be fun, though. My kids have never been to Minnesota nor done things like fishing. But if they’re like me, they’ll get squeamish just goring the worm on the hook. So maybe that’s not such a good idea.

If you have any backbone at all you will FORCE those kids to shower/bathe as soon as they’re done fishing.

Because the smell of that? In that little room?

    Whoa.

    But hey! Have fun!

Yo, bring bug spray. Otherwise, it looks like a great place. I’m sure you will have fun.

Wait, when are you going? I’ll be in town next week not that I’m planning on doing much…Mall of America–I was there 12 years ago. I could’ve done without that place. Speed limit is like 80 in MN these days, I think. Gonna be up around there sometime this fall. Have a good trip.
