There’s a Party goin’ on around here
Finally, Party House Liquors has opened in the (generic name of shopping center) along Koke Mill Road.
Taking advantage of Ride Your Bike to the Beer Store Day today, I rode down there to check out the selection. Right now, there’s nothing that the other beer stores don’t have. They did, though, hand me a notebook with instructions to write down what I would like to see.
I took them up on their offer, giving them the names of half a dozen or so brewing concerns, among them the obligatory New Belgium, Kalamazoo (Mich., the brewer of Bell’s products, which in Illinois are sold under the Kalamazoo name), New Glarus (Wis.) and Stone (San Diego) brewing companies.
That’s as good as I could come up off the top of my head. Do you, fellow beer nerds, have any other suggestions? I will be more than happy to make a return trip with your requests, as it’s about a 3-minute bike ride from Casa Communista.

I really like New Glarus. Did they carry Two Brothers? A couple seasonal beers that I always have a hard time finding are Founder’s English Breakfast Stout and O’Fallon Weach.

I don’t think I saw Two Brothers. I really like their Bitter End and Heavy Handed ales. I imagine the Weach should land any time now.

Good call on the New Belgium and New Glarus. Assuming they’ll eventually carry the same basic stuff every liquor store does, I’d especially like to see Tusker, Full Tilt IPA, Yuengling Lager, and O’Fallon Wheach.
My main request though would just be to keep a good variety of seasonals well stocked - especially the summer stuff.

Wow- weird….I thought I was the only Wheach fan.
I wiped FT out of their stock last summer.

Propers on the Yuengling. I’ve never had it but would like to try it. It’s America’s oldest brewery, ya know. Who makes Full Tilt?

I had Yuengling for the first time in D.C. when I visited our former coworker. Good stuff. I also had Smithwick’s, which was tasty although it’s silly that its “W” is silent.

Russian River Brewing. I hear their brews are mighty tasty. I’d also like someone to get in a better selection of Three Floyds. Ultimately all the shops should do a better job of carrying seasonal brews. I do, however, realize that it might be a risky business venture. As much as I love Sierra Nevada’s Early Spring Beer, I just can’t drink enough to run FT out of stock so I guess they may eventually lose money on em..

That Sierra Nevada Early Spring is pretty good. I lost the battle with my bar’s management a couple months back, and Stone IPA was finally taken off the line; guess their costs to keep it skyrocketed, despite selling it consistently. San Diego has a reputation for not cutting deals with distributors, I’m told. Anyway, they replaced it with Early Spring, and that wasn’t too bad. Now that’s gone (happened right when I got comfortable with it) and they have Sierra’s Summer seasonal on, which tastes like PBR to me. Stone is for home, lately, which isn’t very often. I’ve been digging the Summit Extra Pale at the bars though, which they sell by the bottle out of the cooler. At least I still get a glass.
